Who can use this feature?
All users
As a chat participant you can enable or disable notifications for a specific chat. Turning notifications off (i.e. muting a chat) will disable browser notifications on web and push notifications and sound on mobile. Managing notifications can only be done on a specific chat. Disabling notifications for all your chats can be managed from the device settings (browser, iOS, Android).
You can still mute/unmute a chat that you left or were uninvited from.
You cannot mute the butler chat.
Note: If you wish to silence push notifications on mobile on all of your chats you can set your status to unavailable in your profile.
To mute/unmute a chat:
On web:
- Open the chat you wish to mute.
- Open the chat's details and toggle the Show notification switch.
- A crossed bell icon
will appear on the chat in the chat list to indicate it has been muted.
Note: You can also mute a chat directly from the chat list by clicking on the drop-down menu of a chat and selecting Mute.
On mobile:
- Open the chat you wish to mute.
- Tap on Details.
- Toggle the Notifications switch.
- A crossed bell icon
will appear on the chat in the chat list to indicate it has been muted.
Tip: You can also mute a chat directly from the chat list on mobile by swiping from left to right and tapping on Mute.
Muted and archived chats:
If an archived chat is muted, the chat will remain archived even if new notifications arrive. If you wish to be notified of any new messages, we recommend that you enable notifications for your archived chats. See Archive a chat for more details.
