There a couple of key concepts you need to know to understand how Qwil manages emails and phone numbers.
Account: This is your Qwil account. It is created when you first accept an invitation from an organisation to engage on Qwil messenger. Your account is not linked to any specific organisation. You can access all your account details from the account settings menu on the bottom left corner. The following items are linked to your Qwil account:
- Qwil email - This email address is used to send communications outside the platform that are related to your account (reset password, device sign in alert, Qwil ID request, etc). This email may or may not be the same as the email address that is linked to a specific organisation. To change this email see Change your Qwil email.
- Two-factor phone number - This number is used as two-factor security(2FA) to receive SMS codes. Changing your 2FA phone number will not change any phone numbers linked to a specific organisation membership, and will not change the phone numbers displayed on your contact profile on any given organisation. To change this phone number see Change your 2FA phone number.
Membership: For each organisation that you use on Qwil you will have a separate membership. Your membership is created by each organisation administrator that invites you to Qwil and will only become active when you accept the invitation. The following items are linked to each membership:
- Secure email - When you are invited, an organisation administrator will provide an email. This email will become your security email linked to your organisation membership and is used to send communications outside the platform that are related to your membership (invitations, security email update, phone number update, etc.). For security purposes, you cannot change this email. If you need to change it, contact a member of your relationship team at that organisation.
- Secure phone number - When you are invited, an organisation administrator will provide a phone number. This phone number will become your security phone number linked to your organisation membership and is used to receive an SMS code when accepting an invitation to join the organisation. For security purposes, you cannot change this phone number. If you need to change it, contact a member of your relationship team at that organisation.
- Public email - Your public email appears on your profile and is shown to your contacts. By default, your public email will the same as your secure email. To change this email, see Edit my public contact information. Changing your public email will not change your secure email or your Qwil email.
- Public phone number - Your public phone number appears on your profile and is shown to your contacts. By default, your public phone number will the same as your secure email. To change this email see Edit my public contact information. Changing your public phone number will not change your secure phone number or your Two-factor phone number.
